Andrew McFly is a professional dunker from Los Angeles. He is 5’4″, he goes up off two feet, and he has been billed as the shortest professional dunker in the world by every channel that has ever put him on camera.
Ten feet is ten feet no matter who is jumping at it, and a dunker has to get his hand a good foot above that to finish clean. At 6’5″ that is a hop. At 5’4″ it is the entire event. McFly works with a smaller margin than almost anyone else in the sport, and what separates him from the novelty the height implies is that he does not just get the ball down — he does tricks with it. His signature is the Hand-Off Windmill, and he goes up off a right-left plant.
That is what the 2019 Dunkademics session showed. Tyler Currie and Elijah Bonds were both there, both taller, both dunking well, and the clip that traveled was McFly hitting a Windmill. It went past five million views and became one of the most-watched videos Dunkademics has ever posted. He came back for a second session the following year.
The reach goes well past this site. Whistle featured him as the shortest pro dunker on the planet, and the DUNKMAN channel ran its own piece on him. The 5’4″ is the hook every time. Staying in frame after the hook is the part that is actually difficult.
On his own channel he teaches more than he performs. There is a vlog on how he got into dunking, a run of warm-up and jump-prep videos, a session with an NBA trainer, and a slam session where he lands a new dunk on camera. It is a small library — fifteen videos, seventeen thousand subscribers — and it is pointed squarely at people who have been told they are too short to dunk.
Alongside Anthony Height at 5’6″, he anchors the short end of the Dunkademics roster, and he is the reason the question of how short you can be and still dunk keeps coming back.
