Jeremiah Walker

London, England

Jeremiah Walker is a 20-year-old professional dunker from London who has spent the past year being flown around the world to compete. He is 6'2" with an 8'1" standing reach and a 46" vertical, goes up off two feet from a right-left plant, and his signature is the reverse behind-the-back.

He did not start with basketball. Everyone in his family played football, his uncles included, and he played from five until he was eight before concluding he was simply bad at it. He was small, he was not good, and he knew it. A friend at primary school pointed out that he was tall and suggested basketball instead, and from eight years old he was hooked, though in hindsight he says what he actually loved was dunking rather than the sport around it. He was throwing down on a five foot netball hoop at that age and got his real first dunk at twelve, a put-back over a friend, which he still calls perfect.

The idea that this could be a career came from a coach, who was the first person to tell him you can dunk for a living and pointed him toward Joel Henry as proof. Until then he assumed the ceiling was the occasional paid event.

His first contest went badly. He went with an off-the-lob reverse windmill, missed a one-foot attempt he should have had, and left with nothing. The turnaround came at a later event where he opened with an off-the-bounce Eastbay and an off-the-bounce reverse windmill, then cleared three people on a windmill, his first time going over someone in competition. He has since broken into the Dunk Elite and FIBA 3x3 circuits.
