Courtland Holloway is a dunker from Alabama whose career has been interrupted and restarted more than once. He grew from 5’6” to 6’1” in two months as a teenager, and by his own account his heart stopped when he was a newborn.
He went viral on Instagram after a single year of college and signed with the Harlem Globetrotters at nineteen, which he says made him the youngest player they had ever signed. That first run ended in a car accident he describes as career-ending at the time: he hit five trees, fractured his chest, broke an arm and an ankle, dislocated a hip, was pronounced dead at the scene and came out of it with more than 150 staples and stitches.
He came back and played for the Harlem Wizards, and left when the pandemic shut the tour down. He has done motion capture for NBA 2K on both 2K20 and 2K22, coaches with Athletic Truth Group, and works as a media personality.
He puts his own vertical at around 50 inches. TNT Sports has posted him twice: once for a dunk that scored a perfect 50, and once for finishing a dunk after dislocating his thumb on the attempt.
The story is the reason to read the page. Most of the dunkers here have a straight line from first dunk to first contest to first title. His has a hospital in the middle of it, and he is still competing at the level where a national broadcaster puts his dunks on air.
