Short DunkerFormer D1 High JumperFIBA Competitor

Tony Crosby II is a 5’6” dunker from Long Beach, California, now based in Atlanta. He was born in July 1999, he jumps off two feet, and he is one of the few dunkers competing internationally at under five foot seven.

He came to it from track and field. At Grand Canyon University in 2018 he finished second in the high jump at the WAC Outdoor Championships with a clearance of 2.02 metres, fifth in the indoor version, and set a long jump best of 7.00 metres at the Steve Scott Invitational. That is a Division I jumper’s résumé before any of the dunking, and it is the reason the vertical holds up against people a foot taller than him.

His biggest dunk contest result is Quai 54 in Paris in 2021, which he won. He has also taken a Bulls halftime dunk contest, appeared at the NCAA Final Four FanFest, and competed in the dunk contest at the FIBA 3x3 Taipei Challenger in 2024 against David Carlos of the Philippines and Gustavo Haakin of Brazil.

Since 2024 he has played SlamBall for the Slashers, where he wears number one, plays handler and captains the team despite going in the fourth round of the draft. He is the shortest player in the league.

The height is not a novelty in his case, it is the whole engineering problem. At 5’6” he has to clear roughly two feet more air than a six-foot-six dunker to put a hand in the same place, and every dunk in his bag has to be finished at full stretch with the ball already high. The track background is what makes that repeatable rather than occasional.
