Guy Dupuy is a French professional dunker, 6'3" with a 50" vertical, who goes up off his left foot. He is known as the Frequent Flyer, and his signature is a hide-and-seek over a motorcycle.
He did not arrive from a dunking background. He had spent about eleven years playing basketball and wanted something with more fun and less discipline attached to it, which is a rare and fairly honest reason to switch codes. Between 2009 and 2012 he was close to unbeatable on the contest circuit, and he toured through that period with Team Flight Brothers, the group at the centre of the sport at the time.
The one-foot takeoff is central to how he competes. At 6'3" jumping off a single leg he covers ground rather than just height, which is why so much of his package involves clearing objects: cars, motorcycles, people. Props are difficult to judge well and easy to get wrong, and building a contest career on them requires being consistent enough that the object stops being the story.
He has won Quai 54 in Paris, the contest most European dunkers organise their year around, and has competed at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup. Touring internationally has been the shape of his career rather than any single home scene.
The result most people know is The Dunk King season two. He won it in a finale against Porter Maberry and Jordan Kilganon, going over a red convertible twice, once between the legs, and taking the $100,000 prize. Shaquille O'Neal, judging, was reduced to tears by it. Dupuy then finished the night by proposing to his girlfriend on camera, which meant he left the building with the title, the money and a fiancée.
