Brandon LaCue, who dunks as Werm, is a 6’2” one-foot dunker out of Broward County, Florida, and one of the founding-era members of Team Flight Brothers. He later became a captain of the crew.
His biggest result is The Dunk King, TNT’s 2017 dunk series, where he finished third. The podium was Guy Dupuy first, Jordan Southerland second, LaCue third and Jordan Kilganon fourth, out of a field that started far wider. His semi-final against Jonathan Clark was carried by NBA.com.
He has multiple Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown titles, with different sources putting the count at four or five, and Ballislife singled him out for shutting down the 2012 Charlotte stop. He has also won the Rudy Gay dunk contest.
The dunk he is known for is the 360 scoop, sometimes called the 360 cradle, and he claims the scoop family as his own invention. Doing it off one foot is the part that separates his version, since the scoop needs the ball held low and swung late, and a single-leg takeoff gives you less time to get it back up.
Since January 2016 he has been a professional athlete with the Harlem Wizards, performing full time alongside the contest schedule. He played college ball at Howard College from 2006 to 2008 before the dunking took over.
His career splits cleanly in two: the Team Flight Brothers years, when the sport ran on tours and mixtapes and results mostly went unrecorded, and the Dunk King era, when a televised bracket finally put a number next to his name. Third out of that field is the number.
