Brodie Stephens is a 6’3” two-foot dunker from Townsville, Queensland, and the most decorated Australian on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour dunk circuit, with three World Tour dunk contest golds, two silvers and a bronze.
He first dunked at the end of 2010, left handed, on court two at the Townsville basketball stadium, in grade eight, after about eighteen months of trying. He has never played competitive basketball alongside it, and that is deliberate: staying out of games gives him full control of his training and keeps him away from the injuries a season brings. His stated goal when he started was to become the first professional dunker to come out of Australia.
He made his professional debut at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Masters in Japan in July 2018 and finished second behind Jordan Southerland, then took third at Chengdu later that year. In 2019 he won both NBL 3x3 Pro Hustle dunk contests he entered, at Geelong in April and at the Arafura Games in Darwin later that month, and returned to Chengdu to win the World Tour contest outright ahead of Zhang Yixun and Kristaps Dargais.
Two more World Tour wins followed in 2022: the Chooks-to-Go contest at the Manila Masters in May, over David Carlos, and the M1 Sports contest at the Hong Kong Masters in November. Carlos beat him into second at Manila the following year.
In December 2025 he competed in DUNKMAN, the Shaquille O’Neal limited series on TNT, appearing in the second episode of a 40-dunker field filmed at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta.
His signature is the eastbay whirlwind, a between-the-legs pass rolled through a windmill taken against the natural arm swing, inside one jump. He came up with it in 2017 and landed it for the first time in July 2021, and other dunkers have since put it in their own bags.
He works as a vertical jump coach and basketball skills trainer in Townsville, and lists his own vertical at 46 inches. FIBA 3x3’s own channel has put the question of whether he is the best dunker in Australia to its audience directly.
